Applied Equity Analysis and Portfolio Management, also known as BMGT443, is
an upper-level finance course restricted to those with 84 credit hours completed. For
those interested in stocks and bonds, especially in the analysis and valuation of equity
securities, the course is highly recommended.
BMGT443 emphasizes the valuation and conversion of financial and economic
statements. In addition, there is a group valuation project which requires the evaluation
and valuation of a public company. Various homework assignments also requires a
more extensive use of the Bloomberg program, as well. The Stock-Trak program is also
incorporated, making the course unique and highly attractive.
Stock-Trak, an online investment simulation, lets groups of peers compete against
other groups in the same section. This simulation is not only stimulating, but also
gives students an idea of the various factors that are involved in trades. The program
encourages students to research various companies and study market changes on their
own.
As an entrepreneur and financial consultant, Professor Perfetti is an expert in corporate
finance. He has taught at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and
has consulted with firms such as Lockheed Martin, Citibank, Black & Decker, General
Electric and The Royal Bank of Scotland, to name a few.
His own personal experiences with corporations and international banks are shared and
serve as relevant examples. It is the application of these specific real-world examples that
brings the course outside of the classroom.
Students are motivated and appealed to take this popular course for various reasons, aside
from the fact that it is required for finance majors.
"I feel like this is one of the most important classes a finance major can take, if not the
most important. The information is so relevant and so useful for working in the finance
industry after graduation because it is imperative to know the basic analysis of company
valuation," said finance major Christina Goffe.
Other students are attracted to the course even more because of Professor Perfetti's strong
credentials.
"I really think [Perfetti] is amazing and really knows his stuff. He breaks things down
in such a clear manner that it's easy to understand the components of valuation and the
importance of each one," said finance major Vindhya Adapa.
