I took AP chem in high school, and I still didn't do well in this class. Vedernikov has a monotone lecture and he barely actually speaks into the mic, so trying to hear his courses is difficult. The courses are only mandatory in the sense that he has clicker questions at the beginning and sometimes end of class but he posts his courses online.
Vedernikov is a great prof.. Clear courses, very approachable for office hours. He really knows and loves chemistry, yet isn't a showoff. You learn a bit about every element on the periodic table. Periodic trends are covered in depth. Some of the "random" tidbits you learn here actually showed up on the Chemistry GRE!
Class is useless except for clicker questions. You either have to know the material, or work really difficult to teach yourself. If not for AP Chem in high school, I would have been screwed.
Think of the worst possible teacher ever . . . now Vedernikov is 20x-50x worse. No effort to help students, terrible office hours, courses cover NOTHING relevant to the exams, no exam curves, and just plain aggrivating. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
