My favorite class in college. I learned so much and I liked the challenging atmosphere.
He is pompous, petty, and his courses are painful... Avoid working with him at ALL costs!
Difficult course, many books, many exams, papers are open ended and the purpose of them is not well-explained by Dr. Holum. A intelligent fellow for sure, but he tries to show it too much by using pretentious Latin terminology that makes him almost impossible to understand. I suggest going elsewhere unless you are very engaged on the subject.
He's a great prof. but friendly of dull to sit through his courses. As long as you pay attention and show up to discussion with your TA you should do fine on the exams because he gives you possible essay questions before hand.
friendly prof. who knows his field gives out 3 exams with the essay questions in advance so you can study it. The class ultimately depends on who your TA is, my TA was a difficult grader so its a make or break with them.
So dull its unbelievable. The exams and quizes were simple and the TA's were friendly. I got a great grade I just could not stay awake in class. I love history and if someone is dull enough to put me to sleep its pretty bad.
prof. Holum is outstanding. Yes, his class is difficult and condensed with information. What did you expect? It's an upper-level history class. prof. Holum is friendly, approachable and loves to help his students. The person below me is just a baby throwing a temper tantrum, because s/he actually had to do some work.
