This class isn't a great introduction to government and politics in my opinion. It basically focuses on getting accustomed with the SPSS software. I depended on the spss handbook which helped a lot. My TA was no help at all and neither was the prof.. I struggled with the software and spent up to 8 hours at time so be prepared for that.
I was very unimpressed in this class. I normally love government courses. I guess if you want to do political science in the sense that you do lots of polls and stats then this is the class for you, if not then I'd choose another teacher.
There was difficultely any information about "government" taught in this class. It was entirely a statistics class, which isn't something I was expecting from an "introduction to Government" class. The class is taught totally out of an SPSS textbook, which just teaches you the logistics of analyzing quantitative political data. Pick a different teacher.
I found this prof. frustrating: she teaches directly out of a 120$ textbook and does not delve into any conversation about government. Her course is entirely designed to get students used to the program SPSS. She was strict, challenging (one assignment took me 5 hours and I didn't finish!) and difficult to get along with. I found her useless. |
