Logo competition
The Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA) is holding a competition for people to design new logo to represent their organization.
Barak Kamelgard, SUSA's vice president of marketing, said that because SUSA was into new areas and growing as a community they would need a logo for easier recognition.
David Wilmes, SUSA's faculty advisor, mentioned some surveys SUSA had done in the past. According to them, "very few people actually know what it (SUSA) stands for and what they do," Wilmes said.
The contest, which has already officially started, isn't limited to just business students. Any faculty or student in the entirety of the University of Maryland can enter as long as they can prove their affiliation. Submissions will be taken until midnight of Nov. 30 via Kamelgard's email, susa.vpmarketing@gmail.com.
Kamelgard pointed out that this might be the only competition in some student's four years that will have them competing with the faculty.
"Hopefully in a few years you see that logo you go oh that's SUSA that's the government and the business school," he said.
What could currently be perceived as their logo, an image of school mascot Testudo in a business suit, isn't even so. "It isn't that it isn't good enough. It's a great little thing to have," Wilmes said, "but its not really associated with SUSA." The Munch uses the same logo.
Wilmes said in addition to being memorable and eye-catching, he wanted the new logo to represent SUSA's role to the community. "Everybody who is in the business school is part of SUSA," he said.
According to their website, the logo must actually say "SUSA" or "Smith Undergraduate Smith Association" on it, but aside from that there are only a couple guidelines. For more information on the contest go to SUSA's website and find the Logo Design Contest tab.
SUSA is also developing a new slogan, which will be handled by their marketing committee and not through a contest.
