The south expansion of Van Munching Hall is currently on track for its scheduled completion in early
June, the director of operations for Smith Operations at the Robert H. Smith School of Business said
Monday.
Lee Comstock said that the project's main purpose is to create a new office of career services. The new
center would include an employer interview area with 19 interview rooms, as well as a prep area for
students and a lounge for employers, Comstock said.
Two of the interview rooms will be equipped with TelePresence, which Comstock said goes beyond
video conferencing. Comstock said with the new system, you actually feel like you are sitting in the room
with the other person.
"People have reached out to shake the person's hand at the end of the interview," Comstock said.
The new career center will be located on the second floor, Comstock said. The expansion will also
add five offices each on the first, third and fourth floors. According to the University of Maryland's
facilities management website, the project has been given a $6,650,000 budget. The University has hired
Whiting-Turner, an independent contractor, to complete the project.
Comstock said the school also plans to build a suite for recruiting M.B.A. staff, renovate the dean's suite
and renovate Rudy's.
