PwC coaches students on interviewing
The Accounting and Business Association hosted a PricewaterhouseCoopers interviewing tips session on Tuesday, stressing the importance of "brand" and connections for those going into an interview.
Dori Jamison and Kerri Barrack were the speakers on a presentation devoted to helping students improve their interviewing skills as well as improving communication in business settings, building an effective resume and building one's "brand."
Jamison talked about a person's brand as "how a person sees you." This involves a personal assessment, identifying strengths and weaknesses and how they are portrayed to other people you meet. This, combined with connections, are what Jamison noted as "the most important" things to have going in to an interview.
Communication was another key part of the presentation, and Senior Accounting and Finance major Mike Ziolkowski said it was one of his favorite parts.
"It was good to hear interesting questions you can ask the employer," Ziolkowski said. Jamison and Barrack noted that in an interview you should be asking questions as well, not just answering them.
Senior Accounting and Marketing major Johnny Li said that while the presentation was "repetitive in interview tactics," it was helpful in correcting small "nit-picky" details of the interview. He also noted that there was not enough seating. The session was held in room 1206 of Van Munching Hall, and people were forced to stand along the walls to attend.
"They should have been prepared," Li said.
