SUSA executive board positions now filled

Three of the five open leadership positions in the Smith Undergraduate Student Association
(SUSA) have now been filled, including a long-awaited webmaster to maintain SUSA's site.
After a period of accepting applications, SUSA's executive board announced last Monday that
they now have a webmaster, as well as a major representative for both the supply chain and general
business majors. The positions of international business representative and business week
representative remain unfilled for the time being.
For supply chain, SUSA has chosen junior Jennifer Wilner, and for general business they have
picked junior Jacob Miller.
SUSA will no longer advertise for the international business position, but instead will seek to fill
it by appointing someone, according to SUSA Vice President of Administration Pratik Dixit.
"It's nice to have nearly all of the positions filled. Now we can really get going with the goals for
the semester as we plan to utilize everyone," SUSA President Brian Doyle said.
While some Smith students will be directly impacted by the new representatives, it is the
addition of junior information systems major Leigh Harney, the new webmaster, that will likely have the
most immediately obvious and widespread effect on SUSA's operations, as she will be improving and
updating SUSA's website, marylandsusa.com.
Without a webmaster, SUSA hasn't been able devote as much time and resources to their
website as they would like, according to SUSA Vice President of Marketing Girish Chaskar. With this
position filled, Chaskar expects that there will be numerous additions to the site in the months to come.
"In the future we would like to have a website for each club," Chaskar said. Currently, all clubs
either make their own website, or are limited to their listing on stars.umd.edu, the university's directory
of student organizations. Chaskar said that it has not yet been decided if these sites will have their own
domain or be hosted on SUSA's site.
Harney says she plans to use the expertise she has gained working on AKpsi-umd.com as Chief
Information Officer for the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity to improve SUSA's website. In addition
to making the site easier to navigate, Harney hopes to use her familiarity with gestalt principles, which
govern how to arrange data so that it is as visually appealing and practically useful as possible to a user,
to improve the overall look of the site.
"I know how to make people pay attention by condensing and grouping things," Harney said. I
know how to make things look good."
