Flies through material w/o clarifying whats important/ will be asked on exams. Provides tons of crap+study guides which ask questions that don't directly apply to exams. Grades roughly. difficult online quizs. MUST completely rely on book, score perfect on busy work (tons), and score high on exam 1&3 for remote chance at an A. Moderate effort= a B tho.
If you want to learn BIO because its part of you major, Shields is the great. You have to put in the work but you WILL learn. She explains things very well and gives extra credit. Plus she makes bio about as fascinating as it can get :)
To get a B in this class read text book and do practice problems attend lecture and go to lab and "participate", suggest form a study group with the people in your lab very accommodating. Exams difficult in that you can't review your answers given just enough time to complete exam drops lowest exam grade 1st and 3rd exam simple try to get an A or B on those.
IF YOU ARE A BIO/CHEM major, TAKE SHIELDS. If you aren't a science major, i wouldn't recommend her. However, she is an AMAZING prof.. --- had her for both BSCI105 and BSCI222. Wouldn't have it any other way. I have learned alot in the past year. Yeah, she's witty and difficult, but most great teachers are more difficult TAKE HERRRR ! -
MEAN OLD HAG! Knows her things but totally disrespects students and puts them down. I tried to ask questions that were intelligent but she would still attack me for them. Her exams suck! You could know your things and still do badly. I got a B in the class but feel that I deserved an A. She is just rude and terrible! Ugh ruined bio for me!
hillarious lady, but very difficult class. Her exams are very difficult and long. You never have enough time to finish them. She has taken a 100 level class and has made it more difficult than it has to be. I am a 4.0 student and this class was more difficult than Orgo 1
Difficult class, but Shields is a friendly person and sometimes hillarious. If you skip a lecture, you'll feel lost the next time you go to class. Reading the textbook before lecture is definitely advantageous, but not necessary. Clicker questions are important. Learning the material yourself the night before the exam is possible but I don't recommend it
She great and friendly one-on-one, but if you are mean, she'll be mean She does not curve (every point counts!) + some extra credit points. She uses clickers: first question is graded by correctness and all others are just participation. There are weekly tests and other projects due. 3 exams OR 2 exams+final (one can be dropped). exams are difficult |
