Spotify, the "iTunes killer"

what's new with music

"Instant, fun, and simple," is the way the recently launched music manager, ‘Spotify' claims to be. Also dubbed the "iTunes Killer," Spotify is a new product surprisingly picked up by Apple, who normally rejects applications that duplicate features of the iPhone.

Spotify is a new way to enjoy music. It allows you to listen to what you want, when you want, without waiting for files to download onto your computer or upload onto your Ipod. Spotify allows members to share songs and playlists as well. The real kicker, though, is unlike Pandora and other online music sites, Spotify lets you stream any song you want, on-demand. In the mobile world, it has been difficult for online music managers to find this combination of quick-access with tons of music, legally. Spotify claims they "want to connect millions of people with their favorite songs by creating a product that people love to use. We respect creativity and believe in fairly compensating artists for their work. We've cleared the rights to use the music you'll listen to in Spotify."

Sound like a dream come true? Kind of. But don't get too excited yet. As of now, Spotify is available as an iPhone app only over in some European countries. Daniel Eks, Spotify founder, claims it will be in the U.S. by the year's end.
