Smith forms new group to improve student experience

A new council was formed at the Smith School to serve as a link between the student body and administration.

The 16 member Dean's Student Advisory Council held its first monthly meeting on Oct. 16. The goal of the council is to make sure that students have the best experience when they are at the Smith School.

"I personally joined the council to give back to Smith for three great years," council member Aaron Fagan said. "When I look back at the opportunities I was given, I feel the need to give back and really make a difference in the Smith School experience for current and incoming students."

The council is working on ways to get feedback from students at Smith and to pass their concerns on to the administration, including establishing an email address for the council and sending out surveys to specific groups, according to council member Mike DeLucia.

"It's not that it's just the 16 of us, we want it to be so that we're more or less the voice of the entire student body," DeLucia said. "So whenever there is a problem or anything that the student body of the Smith School wants addressed, we're there and we can be the liaison between the two groups."

A selection committee chose the council members from about 40 applicants. The members of the council were split into four subcommittees that will meet more often and focus on specific issues, according to DeLucia
