The subcommittees of the Smith School's Dean's Student Advisory Council discussed what they saw as the main problems that needed to be addressed by the council this year during their second meeting on Nov. 13.

"Since the first meeting we have broken up into small groups to attempt to discuss the places where we have the biggest room for improvement in the business school," council member Brooks Gabel said. "Some of the areas we are looking at are admissions, academics, community, engagement, and the Smith brand as a whole."

The goal of the subcommittees at the meeting was to design a program to facilitate community engagement and improve the Smith School as a whole, according to Gabel.

"One of the problems a lot of us thought needed to be addressed is making Shady Grove students feel more connected and more involved in Smith," council member Mike DeLucia said. "Hopefully this will encourage some dialogue between us to see how we can better connect Smith students between the campuses."

The community subcommittee will be planning a town hall style event at the Shady Grove campus where members of the council, leaders in the Smith Undergraduate Student Association and Dean Victor Mullins will visit to increase the connections with that campus, according to DeLucia.

The council of 16 members held their first meeting in October and will continue to hold monthly meetings with the four subcommittees meeting more often.
