Alumni Corner

Ricky Franks graduated R. H. Smith School of Business in December 2008 with degrees in Accounting, Finance and Economics. During his time at University of Maryland, Franks was involved in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the FBIS. He also took part in the QUEST program. Franks currently works for Deloitte Consulting in McLean, VA, as a Business Technology Analyst.

How do you think Smith best prepared you for working at Deloitte Consulting now?

RF: Deloitte – like any employer – places a premium on teamwork and accountability.  These skills were honed through the numerous group projects that Smith puts every student through.

2. Who would you consider the most influential Professor you had?

RF: Gary Bulmash!  His enthusiasm for Accounting was very encouraging.  He taught me “Whatever you do, be passionate about it.”

3. What is the most important piece of advice you would give current Smith students?

RF: Start early.  Freshman year is not too early to start crafting your resume.  Your interests will change but this is no reason to put off your personal development.  The experiences and skills that you will gain by starting early will set you up for continued successes.  Remember: “Success breeds success.”
