After reporting a 2.1 percent profit increase for the fourth quarter of 2010, fast
food giant McDonalds has stated that they will likely raise their prices in 2011, according
to The New York Times.
These price increases are a result of rising food costs which are expected to rise
2% this year, according to the Los Angeles Times. The company has yet to state whether
prices will rise across the board or only on certain menu items. McDonald’s last raised
prices in the United States at the end of 2009.
Junior journalism and history double major Matt Birchenough says that rising
prices won’t keep him from eating at McDonalds.
“If I want it, I’m going to get it; the increase can’t be that much,” he said. “As a
whole, I’m sure it will impact a lot of people because McDonald’s is huge, and it is
frustrating to see prices rising on so many things.”
However, for junior environmental science and policy major Abby Turner a price
increase is inconsequential. “I never really go to McDonald’s so it doesn’t bother me. I’d
rather eat Chipotle anyway.”
