Update on the iPhone 4S

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook announced the creation of the newest iPhone product, the iPhone 4S, on October 4, although many consumers had anticipated the announcement of a brand new iPhone 5.

The iPhone 4S sold 1 million preorders in its first 24 hours of availability, a new record for Apple, according to AppleInsider. The device will be released to carrier outlets on Oct. 14, and analysts project unit sales to reach 4 million in the opening weekend.

The iPhone 4S has the same exterior design as its predecessor, the iPhone 4, but was upgraded internally. The new product features a dual-core A5 processor, an eight mega-pixel resolution camera, and “Siri,” Apple’s new voice-command system, according to Apple’s website.

“I like the idea of the iPhone 4S,” said junior economics major Jordan Hagel. “I think avid Apple users will buy what is new from Apple.”

Hagel added that “it’s probably saving Apple money because they’re not reconstructing the iPhone, but just adding software. They definitely took [into] large account…the money factor when making it.”

“It is just an improved version of a successful product,” said Charlie Haslup, a junior criminal justice major. “I think people are really interested in getting this phone because it has been used and successful in the past.”
