Apple’s iPhone 5 release could be delayed until 2012

Apple may delay the launch of the new iPhone 5 until as late as next year, leaving customers and would-be buyers disappointed.

The device was to be released in June of this year, but changes in the hardware may have led to the delay.

“The iPhone 5 launch may be delayed in order to give Apple enough time to iron out any issues with the iOS 5, which is gradually turning out to be one of the most important iOS since its launch back in 2006,” said ITProPortal, according to International Business Times.

Sophomore criminal justice major Jeewan Budhu said that he had plans to buy the iPhone 5.

“I was really looking forward to buying one this summer,” said Budhu, who had been waiting for the release to buy a new phone. “When I heard about the delay, I just went with the iPhone 4 because I can’t wait a full year for a new phone.”

Budhu said that he hoped he could still upgrade to the iPhone 5 when it was released.

“I think it should be an option to upgrade for a small fee since people have kind of planned on that release date,” Budhu said. “But what are you going to do? If it’s not ready to be released, then it’s not ready to be released.”

Sophomore psychology major Wayne Evans said that he had purchased an Android over the iPhone 4 last year to avoid the constant upgrades that Apple has been known to release.

“I knew as soon as they released the iPhone 4 that the iPhone 5 would be right around the corner,” Evans said. “Now the new one is delayed because they can’t work out the problems. I’m definitely happy to have an Android right now rather than an iPhone.”

The iPhone 5 has been rumored to have a variety of new features, including a larger screen and the addition of a Sony camera. However, Apple has yet to officially release any information on the exact release date or the new features to expect.

“When it comes out I’m sure it’s going to be amazing,” Budhu said. “It’s just too bad that it’s going to take so long.”
