Getting into the Smith School isn’t the only obstacle for business majors- they
also have to pick one of the several Fellows Programs to further their college experience.
The Lemma Senbet Fund, one of the most competitive Fellows Programs for
seniors in the R.H. Smith Business School, is recently announced its members for the
2011-2012 school year.
The Senbet Fund was started in 2006 and consists of 12 senior finance majors that
are broken up into portfolio managers and equity analysts.
To be considered for the Senbet Fund, applicants have to submit an application, a
resume, and an analyst report. The current members ask applicants back for three rounds
of “superday” interviews and then make their decision.
Shawn Ratwani, a member of the Senbet Fund, describes the interviewer position
as, “surreal…it was not long ago when I was in their shoes.”
He thinks that having members as the interviewers helps them connect to the
prospective incoming members.
Member Lucy Qian calls the application process “rigorous” but also said it helps
show the current members which prospects take their commitment to finance seriously.
Qian highlighted some of the benefits for the new members such as networking
opportunities, having a support unit among the other members and experience with
balancing real money.
Evon Davis interviewed for the incoming Senbet Fund members after becoming
interesting in the program her freshman year. She said the interview process was tough,
but she gained valuable interview experience even if she isn’t selected.
