iPhone has smooth arrival with Verizon

The iPhone 4 is now available from Verizon Wireless, and its arrival was a smooth
success for the phone company, which handled preorders and in-store sales with ease.
Pre-orders for existing Verizon customers began online at 3 a.m. on Feb. 3. Within 24
hours, every phone set aside for the online pre-orders was sold, and customers had little to no
hiccups while ordering, according to Josh Ong in an AppleInsider article.
“I think it will be very good for their business. Their pre-sale went very well,” said
sophomore physics major Austin Wood. “They had lots of people getting it, even lots of people
switching from AT&T to Verizon for a number of reasons.”
The Verizon iPhone 4 became available to the public online and in stores on Feb. 10.
Lines were surprisingly short, considering customers continually requested an iPhone from
networks other than AT&T, which had exclusive rights as the iPhone’s wireless carrier since
2007, according to John Sutter and Doug Gross in a CNN article.
Sutter and Gross proposed the pre-order sales to existing Verizon customers and the
extremely cold weather as causes for the minimal lines on launch day.
Verizon features, such as dependable service and an unlimited data plan that will still be
offered for now, make the Verizon iPhone 4 a serious competitor to AT&T.
“The unlimited data plan is definitely going to draw a lot of users, and if I am not
mistaken it is at a pretty good deal,” said sophomore computer science major Ankeet
Presswala. “I think they’re going to do a lot better with the iPhone than AT&T did.”
