Entrepreneur of the Week

University of Maryland students looking to experience D.C. on a budget can thank this week’s entrepreneur pick, Andrew Mason. Mason created Groupon, a deal-of-the-day website, in November 2008 to give people access to a wide variety of venues and events in their area for unbeatable prices. The Web site offers subscribers across the country city-specific deals each day, from yoga classes, to sky diving, to tanning and wining and dining. If a minimum number of subscribers take the deal, the coupon is unlocked. In an interview with The Today Show, Mason attributed the success of Groupon to “creating a wind for merchants and a wind for customers.”  Sliding in at No. 96 on Fast Company’s “The 100 Most Creative People in Business in 2010,” Mason should be able to provide the best bargain in town for awhile.
