A new Smith Undergraduate Student Association President is roaming the halls of the Robert H. Smith School of Business after starting his term in late December.
Junior operations management and information systems major Chris Coraggio is set to lead SUSA through the 2010 Fall Semester.
“We want to run more efficiently and we want to provide more value to our member organizations,” said Coraggio.
A high level of communication by Coraggio with all club leaders would help ensure this, according to him.
“I’ve instituted a new monthly meeting with all our executive board members and our committee members,” Coraggio said. “That’s something that’s really important to keep the communication up.”
He added that SUSA has meetings every Monday to keep the organization updated and cohesive.
Coraggio said helping students land a job is one of the ultimate goals of SUSA.
“We’re hoping to launch a lot more large events for all students in the Smith school,” Coraggio said.
He added that many events would mainly serve as opportunities to socialize and network. Some will be grade-exclusive, Coraggio said. There are tentative plans for a freshman social/networking event and a senior sendoff this semester.
On the other hand, Coraggio said he hopes to continue helping to organize corporate events, banquets and trips as well.
Coraggio agreed that SUSA seems omnipresent in Smith, and added that it improves the school by acting as a liaison between professors and students. But, he admitted there are negatives, including bureaucratic complications.
“We need to make sure that it’s a fair process for all clubs,” Coraggio said. “A lot of times, it’s hard to provide a lot of value to our member organizations, because we have to work in a bureaucratic way and sometimes it’s too slow to meet their needs.”
“SUSA does not complicate Business Ethics Society operations,” former BES President Daniel Horowitz wrote in an e-mail. “From help connecting organizations for joint events, to suggestions for managerial dilemmas, SUSA helps us to reach the study body effectively, and run our organization smoothly.”
