There’s a new program in Van Munching Hall dedicated to reducing our energy usage. It’s called EnergyWi$e. Working with the Office of Sustainability, the program helps students know when to turn out the lights. Tian Tian Feng of the Society for Green Business says, “We’ve put together a schedule of every classroom so professors will know when to turn off the lights to the classroom, and when to keep them on.” SUSA, faculty, and the clubs are all working together to do their part, but it takes your help, too. If you’re the last one in a classroom, take a second to look at the schedule, and turn out the lights. You’d be surprised how much we can save.
For example, it cost us $10,000 (90,768 kWh) to power Van Munching – last week! Let’s see if we can get this number down even further. Here are some helpful tips from EnergyWise: 1) Burn calories, not energy and take the stairs; 2) Only use electric doors when you really need them, because they allow 25 times more heat to escape, which is especially terrible in the winter.
Remember people: live green, save green.
